THE BASIC FUNCTIONS OF VATA, PITA AND KAPHA

Vata governs bodily functions concerned with nerve function and movement, such as blood circulation, breathing, blinking and the beating of the heart.

Pitta governs bodily functions concerned with heat, metabolism, and energy production. These include digestion, absorption, and nutrition and body temperature.

Kapha governs bodily functions concerned with physical structure, stablity and fluid balance.

Physically, vatas tend to be thin and bony, lack muscle development and have cold hands and feet. They are imaginative, fun, excitable and fast learners. They even walk and talk fast! When vatas are in balance, they are highly adaptable, creative and joyful.

The following symptoms are indicated in vata imbalance:

dry or rough skin
constipation
common fatigue
tension headaches
underweight
insomnia
intolerance of cold
anxiety
worry
